Hi SBoyd, thanks for your note and congratulations on taking a step moving forward toward your PhD. Also, keep an eye out in the next few weeks on news on Alpha Phi Sigma, which might be of interest to you in the CJ arena.

I just started my PhD in Public Safety with a specialization in Criminal Justice. I agree that this area is growing fast and this will open many options in the public safety domain, including Corrections.

Joy, in either case you can't go wrong in my view. Capella is one of the few colleges or universities to offer a BS, MS and PhD in Public Safety. However I believe that this will be a growing trend. Some who work in the HS area have shared with me that they believe that the HS degree offers them a more generalized degree and perhaps more career options. Many others have shared with me that the public safety degree provides instant degree recognition within the public safety domain. As with your degree specialization, this is a very individual decision. Please email me directly if you would like to discuss this further and I'll be happy to help you evaluate your individual circumstances.
Thanks for the comment.

I am about halfway through my masters in criminal justice/human services. I have the option of getting a diploma the way I started or get one under the public safety umbrella. Which one do you think is more beneficial? Just trying to figure things out.
