National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Incident Command Simulation

2007 May 30 Posted by Charles

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) announced the release of a new public safety incident command simulation. More information can be found at their referenced URL. The NIJ report stated that the program “provides simulation training for public safety incident commanders in developing incident action plans and implementing them in various crisis scenarios”.

This certainly appears to be an excellent resource, which can not only help enhance our public safety professions’ preparedness but also can elevate our understanding of the human dynamics involved in managing crisis situations and help us analyze the interrelatedness of the various emergency response agencies of public safety (police, fire and EMS).

In addition to NIJ, the U.S. Fire Administration (component of FEMA) has many ICS courses in the areas of Fire and EMS through the National Fire Academy; as well as FEMA’s emergency management at the Emergency Management Insitute. Both schools are located at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, MD. The web location for USFA is http://www.usfa.dhs.gov with courses online and available through various venues. Definitely worth the public safety arenas notice.

Laura, thank you for sharing the USFA link. I agree that this site is tremendous for the public safety community. Fire services are a vital component of public safety. I appreciate you sharing this and we’ll definitely share it on our end as well.
