IEDs in the U.S., new threat for public safety

2007 Nov 2 Posted by Charles

Hello, Joe mentioned in an earlier post about the recently updated National Strategy for Homeland Security. He also highlighted the new threat to our home land in IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devises). This is a very real concern for police, fire and EMS, as well as for the general public.

I believe that we should all be leaders and help inform others that it is essential that we remain vigilant when in a public setting and to be eyeful of suspicious persons and/or packages in public places. If something looks out of place the authorities should be immediately alerted.

Michael Brown Says:

This threat will get worse because of the new threat that I indentify as the “disenfranchised veteran terrorist”. Returning veterans may become a faciltator of this problem, unfornately.

Joy Says:

You’re kidding, Michael? Has this already happened- a returning veteran was involved in a terrorist attack? What do you base your assumptions on?

The returning veterans currently are different from veterans of a conscripted action. They are a different sort-of breed, so to speak. They enlisted by choice, not by force.

Michael Brown Says:

Joy, it has happened with a volunteer soldier, a terrorist attack, yes. In Oklahoma, ex post facto, and it will occur again. What can we do to help neutralize the threat?

Joe Pascarella Says:

Michael,

Very good point.

Joe
