Today I received news from the national office of Alpha Phi Sigma, which is a national honor society for criminal justice majors, that Capella has been granted its own honor society chapter. We take great pride in the rigor of our programs and consistently look for ways in which to recognize academic excellence; this national honor society provides a wonderful way for us to recognize our learners internally and also have them recognized externally by the academy and within their own communities by their membership in this honor society.
Michael Brown Says:
This is only the beginning of what Capella and some who attend the institution have to look forward to. This is a good start. O.W.O.W.
Ray Newman Says:
Dr. Joe,
Great news. Any word on when those of us who have made application will find out our status as members?
Joy Says:
Good point, Ray. Will there be a link to an Alpha Phi Sigma website? I’m excited about this opportunity.
Caroletta Says:
This is a great accomplishment!!! Can those learners that are already alumni members join this chapter?
Joy Says:
Where are you a member from, Caroletta? I’d never even heard of Alpha Phi Sigma before Capella.
What type of things did/does your chapter do?
Eric Baskerville Says:
Contact me about the article I sent for our new honor society in criminal justice. Did yu receive it? When will it be published.

Caroletta Says:
Hi Joy.
I was initiated in Alpha Phi Sigma at the University of South Carolina in 1995 while getting my masters in criminal justice. Every noted program of criminal justice should have a chapter.

Hi Everyone;
I was just trying to email someone about Alpha Phi Sigma and I came upon this blog page. I am very interested in joining the CJ Society as a professional in this area. I am in the PhD program and have a MSCJ from Florida Metropolitan University with a 3.44 GPA overall. I have just achieved a 3.4 GPA in the PhD courses at Capella. Someone send me any information on Alpha Phi Sigma if possible. Great opportunity.
Kathy Orth Says:
Hello All,
How exciting is it to have such an honor of having the Alpha Phi Sigma on a resume, a dream only a few can dream. I can see where this will lead all of us in CJ and PS to adventures where others do not tread. Thank you Capella for allowing me to be a part of a wonderful honor society such as this.
Joy Says:
Charles, I never heard anything about membership in Alpha Sigma Phi. I mailed a money order for $40, the applicaton, and a copy of my transcript (unofficial) back at the end of September. Thank you. Joy
Charles Tiffin Says:
Hello Raymond, if you haven’t received any information yet on the honor society please email Capella’s honor society advisor, Dr. Ho at Truc-Nhu.Ho@capella.edu for details on how to join.
Thanks
Charles
Charles Rowland Says:
I graduated with my master’s in criminal justice in December 2007. I was asked about my interest back in the summer of 2007. I never was told when the chapter was implemented. Can I become an honorary member?
Charles Says:
Hello Charles, please email Dr. Ho and ask her if there are any provisions. The only options that I see are learner or faculty, but she can better verify. Her email is Truc-Nhu.Ho@Capella.edu.
Thanks
Charles
