Public Safety and Global Warming

2007 Nov 10 Posted by Joseph Pascarella

The General Secretary of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, said yesterday on a vist to Chile that the issue of Global Warming and climate change is at an emergency situation.

Global warming, climate change, and the rising sea levels becomes a Public Safety issue during a flood or hurricane. The increase in population, and development near coastal areas in the United States overtaxes public safety during emergency incidents. Evacuations, rescues, recovery, and safety stabilization efforts are becoming increasingly difficult for public safety authorities given the increase in population and development. As the sea level rises and development continues, this will become an even worsening problem in the public safety arena.

Stay safe and have a great weekend.
