A discussion of Public Safety and online education at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) conference

I had the pleasure of attending the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) conference in Cincinnati last week. Faculty members Drs. Joe Pascarella and Howard Henderson attended as well. Joe presented on the interdisciplinary approach to public safety that serves as the foundation to our online public safety program. Howard presented on the influence of online education in the criminal justice field. Those sessions were followed by a panel discussion on online education.

In closing, we had a couple of interesting visitors to our online education session in Cincinnati. We had a gentleman stand up during the public safety session to announce that he was just starting at Capella, in his first quarter, and proud to be a Capella learner. In the same audience we also had one of our most recent graduates attend the session. She just completed her dissertation and is one of the world’s newest criminal justice PhDs!

I am closing in on completion of my Masters’ degree in Human Services - Criminal Justice. Do you have any suggestions about entering the realm of teaching online in the criminal justice field? Thanks in advance.
