Swine flu investigation

2009 Apr 25 Posted by Charles

The World Health Organization (WHO) and U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) are closely monitoring multinational outbreaks of the Swine flu virus. This event certainly highlights the interconnectivity of events, people and nations. It also demonstrates the criticality of our public safety and public health professionals working closely together to keep everyone as informed, safe and healthy as possible.

The CDC reports that the symptoms of Swine flu might be similar to seasonal flu symptoms (fever, lethargy, coughing, sore throat, vomiting, etc.). The CDC reports that general good hygiene practices help stop the spread of germs (hand washing, stay away from others if sick, don’t touch eyes, nose or mouth and don’t spread germs when coughing). This is always good advice and especially so in times like these.

The CDC is investigating this outbreak and is sure to keep everyone advised.

Marian Mosser, PhD Says:

The International Association of Emergency Managers Universities and Colleges Committee (IAEM-UCC) has produced a Google Map which tracks the cases of H1N1 Influenza on college and university campuses in the United States and Canada.
The map is available at: http://tinyurl.com/HigherEdH1N1Map. The map is derived with information shared by peers on the Disaster Resilient Universities (DRU) list serve and from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools (OSDFS). Information is verified with each affected university’s web site, which is cited and linked on the map.
