Leadership in Public Safety and Public Administration is sorely needed. As a retired municipal police executive, it appears to me that leadership training in the law enforcement field has basically been management training. Seldom is leadership addressed in police executive training.
Personally, I wish Capella University the best in this endeaver. Goo job.

I disagree, with all the problems in the world today;especially the swine flu; it is going to call for an increase in all forms of public service across all nations. With the WHO saying that it could become an epidemic and over 1,700 cases in Canada alone its just a matter of time before there is mass cooperation throughout the world. The Ontario Health Dept says that in a few days the World Health Organization could go to phase 6 and that could potentially close schools and large businesses that have a large quantity of bodies flowing through at one time.

Honestly, I do not see the role of public service changing based on a couple of pen swipes and hand raises. Public service is a service of the heart where one participates because they want to help others. That being said, based upon the highlights of the bill (http://www.nationalservice.gov/about/newsroom/releases_detail.asp?tbl_pr_id=1283) I can see the Volunteer Generation Fund helping to raise the number of overall volunteers as well as increasing awareness towards public safety issues while the National Service Reserve Corp is utilized to strengthen public service agencies during times of disaster. Overall it should help Public Service agencies but in the end it will ultimately depend on the heart of the individual.
