Dr. John Hawkins, a noted police scholar from the U.K. is visiting the U.S. and will present at Capella University’s Atlanta colloquium in September. Dr. Hawkins originally from Northern Ireland, John is a senior police officer based in Scotland. He is a product of the service’s Accelerated Career Development Programme that develops officers with the potential to attain Chief Officer rank and has gained a broad range of policing experience during his service. John graduated with a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree from Henley Business School in 2008 having conducted research focusing upon the relationship between leadership style, emotional intelligence, (change) context and performance in policing. He retains a research interest in leadership and is involved in a number of on-going projects in this regard. He also lectures widely on the subject. He is a visiting member of faculty at Henley Business School in England, where he mentors doctoral students. In 2009, John was awarded a Fulbright Police Scholarship and will conduct a comparative review of leadership development arrangements in the US and the UK, with a particular focus upon law enforcement. John is affiliated with Capella University, John Jay University and Case University during his Fulbright visit. He will be a keynote speaker at Capella’s Atlanta Colloquium in September and will be working with the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police on his Fulbright research.
