Program Chair, Public Safety program, Capella University
Dr. Charles Tiffin began his career as a military police investigator with the U.S. Army before becoming a police officer with the Durham Police Department in North Carolina, an internationally accredited agency. Part of his time in Durham was spent working in a consolidated police-fire public safety organization, which at the time was the largest such consolidated agency in the United States. He retired from policing as a police major after 29 years in the field.
Tiffin began his educational pursuits with an associate’s degree in Police Science and Fire Services. He then completed a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Policy Studies from Guilford College, a master’s degree from Duke University, and a PhD from The Union Institute and University. Tiffin also received a Fulbright Fellowship in Professional Policing, which allowed him to work and conduct research with European police agencies. In 2001, he earned a post-doctoral graduate certificate from Duke University.
