Dr. Barthelmeus’ public service spans 39 years in the fields of corrections, law enforcement, social services, and education. He is a former correction officer, a retired police officer, and has served in a variety of government social service positions, including child and adult welfare. He has been the recipient of a presidential letter of commendation, a commendation from the governor of the State of New York, a citation from the New York State legislature, and numerous meritorious service awards for his work in law enforcement. He has also been recognized for his contributions in public education and child welfare.
Dr. Barthelmeus holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Sarasota. His baccalaureate degree, cum laude, with dual majors in Criminal Justice and Psychology, was earned at Mercy college, as was an Associate of Science degree, with a concentration in Criminal Justice. Professional training includes: State of Georgia Child Protection Training and Certification Program; State of Florida (PDC) Child Protective Investigator Training and Certification Program; SDHC, Florida; Aggression and Control Techniques; NYS Municipal Police Training Academy; F.B.I. Law Enforcement Officers Training; Police K-9 Training School; John Jay College Hostage Negotiations; NYPD Auto Crime School; NY State Municipal Police Training; Advanced Tactical & Weapons Training; and Westchester County Correction Officers Academy.
